Advocates: Robert Powell

Robert Powell is a stage and screen actor best known for playing the lead role in Franco Zefferelli's Jesus Of Nazareth in 1977. He appeared in the world premiere of Alan Ayckbourn's The Sparrow in 1967 just prior to finding fame on television's Doomwatch.

"I have the curious distinction of having been in the only Ayckbourn play which never got beyond Scarborough and was never seen again; it was called The Sparrow and was a distinctly curious piece, not at all about family jokes or anything like that.

"A great, great writer. As a person he is very funny, very shy… and a very private man. It takes a while for him to relax with you but once he trusts you. He's a great friend."
