Advocates: Alan Strachan

Alan Strachan is a director who has produced a number of Alan Ayckbourn's plays to great acclaim and success in the West End. He has also worked with the playwright at the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough.

"I think the great thing about Alan is his ability to write very funny plays but plays which also reveal and probe the English middle-class psyche, particularly the battleground which is English middle-class marriage. This is usually expressed in scenes of hysterical funniness for the audience but for extreme pain to the characters.”

"The content of Alan's work is surprisingly sharp, very shrewd, very tough and genuinely subversive.”
